Making Waves in Swimming

This term, our Senior Girls and Boys Swimming teams delivered incredible performances at the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships in Aberdeen, achieving personal bests and top-five finishes. We are especially proud of Katy (S2), who was crowned Scottish Schools’ Champion in both the 13-14 100m and 200m Butterfly events!

Meanwhile, Lili (S3) represented the Scottish Junior Team at the 58th Geneva International Challenge Swim Meet, gaining valuable international experience.

Our MES swimmers recently made history at the Bath Cup, coming home with not one but two national titles. They successfully defended their Nalson Cup Freestyle Relay title and won the Otter Cup Medley event – a truly impressive double win.

Victory on the Hockey Field

Our MES teams are known for their hockey success, with names such as Amy Costello on our FP roster, and we’re proud to say our SMC teams are just as successful. Our Senior Boys U15 Hockey team showcased incredible determination in the National Cup Final against Merchiston Castle a couple of weeks ago, coming away with the trophy! It was a hard-fought match, but their teamwork and resilience throughout the season earned them a well-deserved victory.

On the girls’ side, our 1st XI team reached the Scottish Cup Final, where they faced George Watson’s in a dramatic game that went to penalties. Although the result didn’t go our way, the team’s outstanding performance and perseverance were a testament to their hard work this season.

Kicking Up a Storm in Football

Football continues to grow in strength at ESMS. Our Senior Boys 1st XI team remains undefeated in their division, topping the table and advancing to the Lothian League Championship play-offs. And the cherry on the cake came when the team took home the trophy at the SISFA Scottish Independent Schools Cup final. Our U15 team were also crowned champions, taking home their own SISFA finals trophy.

We are also really proud of Archie (S6), who has been selected for the Scottish Schools’ Football Association’s U18 team. He’ll be representing Scotland in the Centenary Shield competition and an international friendly against Australia. Finlay (S5) also reached the final trial, competing alongside the best young footballers in the country.

And it’s not just the SMC students who are performing at an elite level. MES student Cara (S6) was named SWFL 2 player of the month last September, and has secured a football scholarship to Berkeley in California.

The success continues at the Junior level. You may remember our P6 & 7 mixed teams making their mark on the game last year, and this year, our Junior boys’ football team travelled to Leeds to compete against the top independent schools in the North East of England. The boys performed superbly, conceding only one goal on their way to being crowned champions. Next up: St George’s Park, the home of the English national teams, where they will compete against the best schools from across England – flying the flag not only for Scotland, but for ESMS as one of the top footballing schools in the UK.

Winning on Track

Finally, our athletes showcased incredible talent and determination on the indoor track this term, delivering standout performances across multiple events. Megan (S6) and Alice (S5) came 1st and 2nd in the Scottish Schools U20 800m at the Scottish Schools’ Indoor Athletics Championships in February.

Meanwhile, at the Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics, Fabio (S6) and Callum (S5) both took home bronze medals for the High Jump, Fabio in the U20 category, and Callum in the U17 category.

Success in the Ring and on the Pitch

Euan (S1) and Ruben (S6) both fought their way to becoming Scottish Schools Junior and Youth Golden Gloves Champions, meanwhile Oliver (S6) was selected for the Scotland U18 Six Nations Squad, representing both his School and country.

With every challenge and triumph, our athletes have shown not only their skill but also their determination and team spirit. We’re excited to see them build on this success and continue pushing the boundaries in the seasons ahead.
