Support Us
Erskine Stewart Melville was founded by philanthropy and this ethos remains at the heart of the school today. Your gift means we can continue to provide an Erskine Stewart Melville education to children without the financial means, as our founders intended. There are various ways you can do this.
Making a Single Gift
Making a Single Gift will boost funds for the year ahead, allowing us to offer more support to children who would like to attend Erskine Stewart Melville.
Making a Regular Gift
Making a Regular Gift allows us to plan ahead for future years and commit to providing an Erskine Stewart Melville education to a child over multiple years.
Leaving a Gift in Your Will
Centuries ago, our founders Mary Erskine and Daniel Stewart bequeathed generous legacies that helped create the schools we know today. Their gifts have endured through the generations of the school and their generosity is remembered and celebrated as central to our ethos today.
Today, gifts in wills from kind members of our community continue to secure the future of our school and current and future generations of pupils. A decision to leave a gift in your will is a gesture that is both profoundly practical and deeply noble. Your gift will help us continue our life-changing work, last beyond your lifetime and be remembered by future generations.
There are three main kinds of gift in your will that you might like to consider:
- Residuary Gift – A share of your estate to be paid after any debts, funeral costs and cash gifts are paid
- Pecuniary Gift – A cash sum which can be index-linked to guarantee its future value
- Specific Gift – a particular item to be used or sold by the charity
Another type of gift in your will often used to ensure surviving family are looked after, is the Reversionary Gift, which allows you to leave assets to a named individual for their lifetime whilst deciding who should benefit after they have passed away.
Should you choose to leave a gift in your will, your solicitor should run through all the options with you when writing your will. It is helpful if you include our charity number (SC009747) in your will.
We are in the process of establishing a legacy club and would appreciate it if you could kindly let us know if you plan to leave a gift in your will. so that we can include you in communications about our club and activities.
Please contact Suzi Squires, Development Manager on development@esms.org.uk with any questions about leaving a gift in your will.
